If I were to inquire about the average of numbers ranging from 1 to 10, you would likely respond with 5 without needing to deliberate. However, this answer is not entirely accurate. The correct average is 5.5, as '5' represents the average value of numbers ranging from 0 to 10. I understand that you may be calculating it now, but rest assured, I will not delve into the various types of averages or measures of central tendency such as mean, median, and mode. Instead, I would like to discuss the concept of being average in everyday life. For the time being let's imagine that you are a teacher. When you learn that a student has achieved an average score in Mathematics on an exam, what initially comes to mind? Furthermore, what advice would you offer to the next group of students?
Here are a few alternatives for you to consider:
- Do you believe the student has achieved approximately 50% marks (or X% based on your interpretation of 'AVERAGE') and falls in the middle ground in terms of Mathematics performance? Or,
- Could this student potentially set the standard for others, prompting you to advise fellow students to aim for higher scores than his or at least match his achievement? Or,
- Would you recommend that all students in the class strive to attain 100% or near-perfect scores in Mathematics since it is a subject where high scores are achievable?
In my opinion, I would choose Option 3. While 'AVERAGE' is considered a significant value in statistical analysis, it is not ideal to strive for mediocrity in real life. In reality, we look up to the highest achiever as our benchmark. Our parents often use their success as an example for us to follow. Don't you agree?
If I were to inquire, "What is the key to achieving the utmost success in your life?" How would you respond? I am genuinely intrigued to hear your perspective on this matter. Simultaneously, I am eager to share my own viewpoint as well. Please forgive me for expressing my opinion before yours.
It is crucial, in my perspective, to identify our true passion in life. Once we have discovered it, we must dedicate ourselves to exploring it to the fullest extent. By delving into our own passion, we can attain utmost fulfillment when we transform it into our chosen profession, striving to become the finest version of ourselves.
Having a clear understanding of our passions is crucial for the phrase "Follow your passion" to hold any meaning. However, if we or our parents or guardians have never taken the time to explore our passions, our fate becomes the determining factor. If our fate is favorable, we can achieve tremendous success and experience a level of satisfaction that we never imagined. Conversely, if our fate is unfavorable or simply average, it can either destroy our entire life or force us to settle for a mediocre existence. In some cases, it can lead us to such depths of disappointment and negativity that some individuals choose to end their lives in tragic ways.
There are various reasons why individuals may not pursue their passion. Firstly, some individuals may not be aware of what their true passion is. Secondly, external influences such as parents, relatives, neighbors, and others may suggest alternative paths that they believe to be more beneficial. Lastly, some individuals may prioritize financial gain and believe that other sources can provide them with more lucrative opportunities. It is not uncommon for people to feel uncertain about whether their interests are truly their passion or simply hobbies they enjoy in their leisure time. However, determining this can be done through a simple self-assessment.
If you wish to determine if your interest is a genuine passion or merely a hobby, consider engaging in repetitive competition with professionals in that field. If you consistently perform well, proceed with confidence, become an expert, take control, and steer your life in the right direction to fulfill your dreams.
